On World Mental Health Day, our Community Fundraising and Engagement Officer Pauline Dobie shares the story of her husband Mike.

Pauline has a deeply personal reason for working at Music Minds Matter. Mike Dobie, her husband, was a talented musician who toured the world with his music. Very sadly, Mike took his own life in April 2021

Kindly sharing her story, Pauline says: like many other musicians, Mike struggled with his mental health during the pandemic… Mike had never expressed the depths of his mental health and how severe it had got.”

Mike had never asked for help. Had we known Music Minds Matter was available, he may have been able to make use of its services in those early stages when he struggled.”

Pauline’s experience has driven her to help the charity grow its funds so it can reach all those working in music who need support before they reach a crisis point.

In honour of Mike, Pauline worked with his family and friends to complete his unfinished third album, culminating in an event celebrating his life and music. The evening raised over £4,000 which will go directly to Music Minds Matter’s frontline work.
