Push your career forward with these five areas of creative support

When applying for financial support towards creative activity from Help Musicians, there are five areas of support you choose from. Applications for these five areas of support are always open, so you will never face a deadline on your application.

Skills and professional development

Financial support for up to £1,500 to take advantage of opportunities that enhance your skills or artistic practice. This could be a virtual conference to learn more about the industry, an online course to enhance your skills, 1:1 coaching or an online masterclass with an expert, or perhaps some time to work with a mentor.

Music-led creative collaboration

Embark on a UK-based research and development activity, testing new work, ideas or potential career directions through inspiring periods of collaboration. Financial support up to £5,000 enables you to work with other practitioners to create work across art forms, creative sectors and other disciplines. Something new must be created throughout this period of collaboration.

Recording and releasing music

Create a new body of work and get it out into the world, with up to £3,000 of support. Business advice sessions also form a part of this programme to help you build your career, as well as assistance to look after your health and wellbeing.

MOBO Help Musicians Fund

For musicians making Hip Hop, Grime, R&B, Soul, music of African origin, Reggae, Jazz and Gospel, this strand of support provides up to £3,000 of support to create a new body of work and get it out into the world. Business advice sessions also form a part of this programme to help you build your career, as well as assistance to look after your health and wellbeing.

Touring and Live

Financial support of up to £5,000 towards the cost of touring where it is possible to show the clear impact it will have on your career development. This support also includes business advice to help grow your skills, and guidance on healthy practice to support you in maintaining your wellbeing.

How much can you apply for?

The maximum amount for each strand of support is different:

  • Develop your skills: up to £1,500
  • Create and release music: up to £3,00
  • MOBO Help Musicians Fund: up to £3,000
  • Creative collaboration: up to £5,000
  • Touring and live: up to £5,000

Combining support in your application

You can apply for more than one type of support at the same time, but the total must not exceed £5,000.

For example, you could apply for £3,000 towards creating and releasing music and £1,500 towards developing your skills in one application.

You can submit more than one application at a time but you can only be awarded one grant for one type of activity in any 12-month period.
