Our Allies programme aims to ensure everyone working in music knows they have somewhere to turn for their mental health and wellbeing

We are excited to announce that organisations across the music industry are coming together to become Music Minds Matter Allies.

Launched by our charity Music Minds Matter, this initiative aims to ensure that everyone working in music knows where to turn for support regarding their mental health and wellbeing.

On World Mental Health Day 2024, six organisations became our first Allies: BIMM Music Institute, BPI (British Phonographic Industry), Featured Artist Coalition (FAC), Music Managers Forum (MMF), Musicians’ Union (MU), and We Are The Unheard (WATU).

Together, we are committed to raising awareness about the mental health resources available to everyone working in music.

As Allies, these organisations will collaborate with us to develop new resources and host events throughout the year, fostering a stronger sense of connection and community around mental wellbeing in music.

In 2024, Music Minds Matter supported over 3,300 people who needed support with their mental health. However, research shows that individuals working in the music industry may be up to three times more likely to experience depression compared to the general population. This underscores the critical need for initiatives like Music Minds Matter Allies, helping us ensure that those in need know where to seek support.

Long-term financial support from the Christopher Meredith Foundation and PPL, including a recent donation from the PPL Giving Fund, combined with the clinical supervision of the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM), helps the charity to deliver a breadth of support and highlights the importance of industry collaboration for collective impact.

With our Music Minds Matter Allies, we can work together to develop more supporting resources and reach so many more who need support, whether a venue booker, artist manager, festival owner, record producer or label accountant. Music Minds Matter is here for everyone working in music at any time.

We Are The Unheard has become a Music Minds Matter Ally because our Founder and CEO, Eve, has been very open about her personal mental health journey. She has faced challenges such as depression, as well as recently being diagnosed with ADHD and autism, both of which present symptoms that can impact her mental wellbeing.
We Are The Unheard (WATU)
The Musicians’ Union regularly refers our members to Music Minds Matter, and we are grateful for the role it plays in supporting musicians across the full breadth of their needs. The MU is proud to be a Music Minds Matter ally and we look forward to seeing the programme continue to grow.
Chris Walters, National Organiser for Education, Health and Wellbeing, Musicians’ Union
BIMM Music Institute’s work with Music Minds Matter will help support over 5,000 students’ mental health as they prepare for a career in the music industry. The collaboration recognises the unique pressures faced by music professionals both on and off stage in a sometimes unpredictable business.
