Help Musicians release 2024 Annual Report

The report details the impact of work delivered in 2024, our financial accounts and plans for the future
Every year, Help Musicians strives to support more musicians and reach communities across the music sector who may benefit from our services — transforming the lives and careers of those who bring us the music we cherish.
Our latest annual report outlines how we did that in 2024, and how we plan to go even further this year.
Our own research, coupled with ongoing feedback from those we support, showed that the scale of need amongst musicians remained incredibly high last year. From financial difficulties to long hours, job insecurity and physical health issues, many factors proved challenging to navigate. We provided a wide breadth of responses to this, maintaining the delivery of effective services and developing new areas of support as well.

2024 was a year of change at Help Musicians, as we adapted our programme of support to ensure our resources are as impactful as possible moving ahead.
In total we delivered over 17,000 interventions to support the lives and careers of musicians. These included 1,577 physical health assessments, 296 home visits to musicians living in isolation, and career-development focused financial support for 458 people. We delivered 3,341 hours of expert industry guidance and matched 103 musicians up with mentors. Our hearing protection service was used by over 2,000 people, and £1.1 million was spent on musicians’ health and welfare needs overall.
We continued to expand our reach across the UK, in line with our commitment to ensuring that every musician is aware of our work and the support they can access. We grew our online audiences, built new collaborative partnerships with organisations like Sounds Queer, PRS and The Ivors, and conducted outreach activities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
As our Annual Report explains, none of this work would have been possible without the support of our wonderful community of funders, donors and fundraisers. Income from major donors increased in 2024, and we welcomed several new members to our 1921 Club. The contributions of corporate partners also rose, and legacies continued to make up a large proportion of our fundraising income. Elsewhere we were repeatedly inspired by the efforts of our community fundraisers, from Feargal Mostyn-Williams’ bi-ahtlon to all the activities that took place for World Music Day. In addition, thank you to the trusts and foundations whose generosity has also helped to make our work possible.

In a world that can feel increasingly divided, we are incredibly grateful to those who partner and support us to keep the people behind the music in the best care
As we look forward to 2025, our focus remains clear: adapting and expanding to meet the changing needs of those we serve, ensuring that we deliver at scale and make a
tangible and lasting difference to the lives of thousands. We want musicians to thrive artistically, physically and mentally, and will continue doing everything we can to make that happen.
